The Populist and Progressive Movements The Populists and Progressive were form of movement that occurred during the outbreaks of the workers juncture after the civil war. The populists began during the late 1800s.The progressive began during the 1900s. There ar numerous differences between these two movements, scarcely yet these movements have many things that are similar. Farmers united to protect their interests, even creating a study political party. The party was called the peoples party which became known as the populist party. Populists drew its strength from plain areas. Populists tended to be poor and uneducated. They had ideas such as government ownership of major industries. The Populists supported labors demand for an eight hour work day. The most disputed Populist demand concerned the money supply. Farmers being both sellers and debtors, apothegm inflation as a way to improve their standard of living, but they wanted to expand the money supply. Farmers c onvinced the government to use smooth-spoken as well as gold to back the money supply. The recounting passed the Bland-Allison Act and the Sherman Silver Purchase. Populist platform urged congress to authorize release and unlimited scratching of silver. The Populists were united in favoring the minting of silver to expand the money supply.
